BoatBookers is a collaborative platform based on sharing and trust, to allow boat owners to earn money, confidently and safely. A simple dynamic business on a boat renting company - Think of this as an Airbnb for boats where owners can create a free listing for their boat and Renters can contact owners directly to rent their boats.
The brief was to create and develop an interactive sample prototype platform for owners to create a free listing for their boat by adding pictures, a description, a price, and some advice about the sailing area, and to design a simple rating & messaging service where Renters can contact the owners directly to ask any questions and rate services.

problem statement & solution
How might we improve the UX/UI experience and process for the business & users.
  • problem #1
Unable to conceptualise and visualise idea

"BoatBookers" were a startup company that had a business idea and needed a prototype design in order to conceptualise and visualise their idea more clearly. Due to the growth of the team/business having just a business plan/idea was not enough. A simple prototype design capturing a booking system, management of bookings, rating system and messaging service was needed to eliminate misunderstandings and miscommunications during the development process.

  • solution #1
Creating core designs design for prototype

Creating a fresh, Quality dummy interactive prototype front-end design focusing on the below core features, as well as displaying the brand of the business through a simplistic engaging design.

    • 1.] Booking system,
    • 2.] Management/Calendar system,
    • 3.] Rating system and
    • 4.] Messaging service

Final design ready for development
Display of the product's designs. After presenting the design explorations, this was now transformed to code to bring the designs to live in order for the client to understand and visualise the design intent in an interactive manner. The aim was to create a clear and frictionless journey, and in doing so to improve brand perception while maintaining and supporting an increase in conversion & traffic.
conclusion
Project summary

There are many benefits of having an online dummy front-end prototype design. The prototyping designs definitely helped "Boat Bookers" eliminate misunderstandings and miscommunications when it came to what they intended to communicate to their developers (the development process). The prototyping improved the quality of requirements and specifications provided to the client. Our client now had, not only a business plan, but an interactive design that they were able to present to investors as well as their developers.

learnings
Knowledge aquired through the design & development of project
  • challenge #0
    Insufficient analysis/ incomplete specification
As a startup there was a focus on a limited prototype, due to incomplete specification, which distracted the design process. Even still we were able to effectively look into better solutions to sufficiently engineer and developed a final front-end prototype design.
  • challenge #0
Reduced time & costs within Budget
Though the specifications on paper were not clear, the Client was able to communicate with clarity on how the front-end prototype had to be designed, which all fell within the set budget. With all set, we were able to create a prototype that improved the quality of the requirements provided and were able to prevent any potential unnecessary costly future.
  • challenge #0
If there was more time & budget available…
Development of further user personas and Journey Maps would have been created. Additional research service could have been provided for the client as the business idea is quite complex and extensive (for example, technical and social challenges).
